Popularly known as Babaji Maharaj, He was born in the village of Lath Ghuman, Batala in Gurdaspur district of than East Punjab on July 1839. Education of Babaji Maharaj
Babaji Maharaj started his student life under the guidance of Baba Khem Singh Ji who was Vedantic saint at the age of 5 years. Within 2 years of his study, he became a very good reader of Guru Granth Sahib and he also read Dasam Granth.
When the babaji read the holy book of sikhs, he came to know that the Guru Nanak Dev Ji first guru of sikhs had rejected the concepts of hatha yoga, pranayama, visits to pilgrimage, rituals and fasting as mean to reach the almighty God. So the guruji decided to find a master who is perfect in Anhad Shabad which meant inner sound. It was a type of meditation which involves the principle of inner sound. He was in search of a master who would teach meaning of five sounds “Panch Shabad” as mentioned in Guru Granth Sahib.”

It was Swami ji who asked his spread the practice of nam and surat shabd yog in the year of 1877. In the year 1889 he took retirement from the service of Army and returned to his village. He settled in village Bal saran located on the banks of river Beas where he built a hut to live in. This small village has turned into township no and known as Dera baba Jaimal singh.
